About Me
Mikayla Basanese
Founder, Basanese Global Consulting
I founded Basanese Global Consulting to help organizations navigate the complexity of working across borders, cultures, and sectors. With a decade of international experience, including over six years at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) , I’ve led international partnerships that brought together government agencies, research institutions, and industry to solve global challenges.
At NOAA, I managed portfolios with Korea and Japan, co-chaired U.S.–Korea ocean research panels, and built partnerships that grew from $500,000 in seed funding to over $40 million in follow-on investment. I’ve also coordinated international delegations, developed partnership strategies with 12+ countries, and supported bilateral and multilateral collaboration in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
But what truly sets my work apart is my passion for cross-cultural understanding. I’ve lived, studied, and worked internationally, from Germany to Korea, and I’ve studied multiple languages, including German, Korean, and Japanese. I bring this cultural fluency to every engagement, helping clients build trust, communicate effectively, and achieve lasting results.
My Approach
Every client and every partnership is unique. I take a hands-on, tailored approach to help organizations:
Identify opportunities and risks in international engagement
Communicate across cultural boundaries with clarity and respect
Build partnerships that deliver measurable outcomes
Facilitate meetings and delegations that move initiatives forward
My goal is simple: to help you succeed in the international arena by providing practical strategies and support grounded in experience.
Beyond Work
When I’m not working with clients, I’m often exploring cultural traditions, studying languages, or traveling with my husband. I also write about global culture and meaning in my blog, Tapestry of Our World, and I am a volunteer ESL teacher serving immigrants in the Washington, DC area.
